Hi All,

My wife has spilt coffee over the MMI unit in her Q7 and now all of the buttons to the left of the main control aren't working and the main silver knob itself doesn't register on the screen when turned. I have the car in at an Audi specialist at the minute for an un-related issue to be fixed and they are telling me that it's going to be at least £1150 to replace the MMI Control Unit (including labour).

Does anyone know of any other way to rectify this or buy a re-conditioned part? I've had the car since new (Sept. 07) and am planning to replace it at the end of this year so don't want to spend too much on it!

Also, is the part easy to fit (I'm a complete amateur...)

Thanks!

Oz

Try here. AUDI Q7 MMI 2G CONTROL PANEL WITH ROTARY KNOB 4L0919610 4L0910609 2006-2010 | eBay (http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/371227510615?nav=SEARCH#) ..though check on part numbers....
As to fitting no idea I'm afraid...but someone here will know.

Hi there
Here is a link to slightly different thing but it will tell you how to get into the inner workings and give it at least a clean.
Cant say if it will work but give it a try. Much cheaper than £1000 for the new module.
MMI LED Swap (http://www.audienthusiasts.com/Project_MMILED.html)
hope this helps

I did this :
Bought a can of IPA (isopropyl alcohol) spray and a 500ml can online from CPC.
Take out MMI, remove PCB, wash in sink with warm running water.
Take out and spray the IPA all over and under every component and into the gap around the knob such that you flush out every trace of water and replace it with IPA.
The IPA is not conductive and will evapourate quickly.
Put PCB in warm place to dry off somewhat before putting back in car (doesn't have to 100% dry of alcohol).

Be aware that the button caps may get ruined by the IPA or long-contact with water so while you may have to get coffee from the underside, try to just flash rinse in water and pat dry.
