I have a standard A4 b8 se with the 17" alloys. I am thinking of upgrading to larger wheels and wondered what is the largest I can put on without having to alter the height of the vehicle? Cheers and could you recommend any wheels ;-)

You can go up to 20", but it will look ugly without drop:

My first Audi (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/342981-My-first-Audi)

I went to 18" but would be maybe better with 19" like sline originals...
Anyway w/o drop maybe 19" and a bit higher tires for look, to not have to big cap...-many people still recommend 17 and 18 for better ride comfort.

Not to discourage you in any way or shape..but I really wouldn't go above 18". I feel 18" is the best balance between practicality and vanity. I've got 19" on my car at the moment (summer wheels), and can honestly say our roads here are just too bad to really justify it.

The positives:
-19" looks good
-You get improved handling compared to 17"

The negatives:
-You will use more fuel
-They will add more weight (seriously..pick up a 255/35/19 alloy)
-You WILL kerb them no matter how careful you are (so expect refurb costs)
-Tyres cost a lot more on them
-You will damage the tyre and possibly need a new one when you kerb them
-You will feel every pothole and bump in the road like its been connected with a metal rod to your back

Thanks for your advice. I really want to keep the comfort level so 18" does sound the better choice. Just have to look at what styles are available

Here's mine on the 18" wheels it came with from the factory which are now my winter wheels because they're quicker and easier to clean. It rode a bit high and looked odd to me.

And here it is with my 18" summer wheels and lowered with genuine S-line springs and shocks (-30mm):
26830

I'd agree with the comments above, 18" is the limit for a comfortable ride and reasonable cost. 19" does look better though.

Same dilemma for me, I'm thinking 18 also.
I plan on using some A5 18's as the offset is a little lower so will push them out a little. The 17's are so far inside the arches it's not even funny

Congratulations. Those are the right wheels! Will you keep them that colour or spray them gunmetal dark grey?

Yes, that wheel on the silver combo is one I love.
Clean.

I work at an ex-airbase that now has a large car auction house as part of it and there's thousands of cars in and out each month.
I see a lot of fleet A4 b8's and this wheel looks the best IMO and looks larger than other 18's

Will leave them factory until end of spring at least.

Sold the 17's before they are even off!
Guy on the desk at work knew they were for sale and another guy on site knackered 2 of his 18's today and needs a set ASAP.

Apologies to Boy who was going to have them as a winter set, but want to get the guy at work rolling.

Well today would have worked out...
If *** tyres in Peterborough had been genuine in their description ( if you are going to buy tyres/wheels from anywhere near there I'll give you the name so you can avoid them).

Turned up and the wheels were all bubbling around the bolt holes and the one that was 'lightly kurbed' was way more and defo needed a refurb, the two 'great' Pirelli tyres described as 5mm were less and unevenly worn, the two that we agreed to replace were not replaced with new budget tyres as we discussed, but with 2 part worns that weren't even matching, one of them was worse than the ******* Pirellis!
Guy wanted to tell me we'd done a deal and he'd gone to the effort of putting on the 'new tyres' so I left as his brother got shirty.

Bad luck about those wheels/tyres. Hope you get sorted with some decent genuine ones before long.

Thanks,
I had painted myself into a corner a bit with promising the 17's by tomorrow, so I went to see another set in Wolverhampton and they were near perfect...
So they are now on my car!

Very nice. You'll have to wash her now with those clean wheels to show up the mud!:aargh4:

It was the awful drive to Peterborough, the A47 is a filthy road.
I have washed her but it was just getting dark so it will have to wait for some light tomorrow.

Got a quick photo before work.

And one after, dark I know, but I loved how the wheels stood out!
2 new tyres in my lunch break and one of the centre caps lost its clip and made a break for it somewhere between the tyre shop and work though.
