Coolant leak

Hi All,

Just found out the car I bought had got quite a bad coolant leak. Light came on the other day so I filled up and I can see after checking that the coolant is dropping rapidly. Just topped up again and chucked a big piece of cardboard underneath, started it up, and I can see a few drops appear immediately towards the rear of the engine.

Anyone know what this could be?

Any help appreciated.

there are a few things it could be, but it won't help you at all. get the engine cover off and take look in there with a torch.

Took a closer look today. Definitely dripping at the back of the engine but not sure where from. Couple of photos might shed some light. Still concerned it might be going into the engine. Cap and dipstick not showing signs of anything. Took the top off but cannot see signs of any leaks,

As Zollaf :notworthy said get the engine cover off and get a torch. Start the car and when it heats up check for leaks.Start with the expansion tank. Check the ends and undersides of pipes. If it appears to be leaking around a plastic flange don't get scalded! The place where it's dripping may bear no relation to where it's leaking.

Find the coolant temperature sensor (CTS) at the back of the block & get your fingers round it & feel for a leak there. The o-ring is known to fail & gives a drip at the back of the engine. Took me ages to find out that was my problem. Very difficult to see & mind your fingers.....

Think I have found the source. lid off i got the camera right to the back of the engine... Not sure what the pipe is.
