Hey. My cylinder head on my mk2 golf gti blew today and I'm in desperate need of a straight edge so I can check the the block and head are still flat.
If anyone is near and would be kind enough to lend me there's for a couple hours. There is cake tea and biscuits readily availible :)

Head needs taken to a machine shop for pressure testing mate, they automatically check and skim if needed

I would take it in but I'm out of money and can't afford to send it to the shop.

Even if it looks straight and it's not the gasket will blow again wasting your money.

I can check it for straightness quiet accurately. If it's warped I'll have to park the car up for a month. I've already got a full head gasket kit.

I suppose it's worth a shot. Bit too far for me even with tea and biscuits :beerchug:

Fair enough. Used to rebuild engines for a living. But don't have access to a straight edge any more.

Haven't had the head off yet. But sump is full of coolant. And breather is full of emulgamated oil.

Ah this is the one that wouldn't start? Last owner must have been careless idiot but those old engines are much stronger than the modern ones. Hopefully you can borrow a straight edge somewhere, keep us posted

Give you the opportunity to give everything a good going over. You could do a post with progress reports and a few photos ...

No need to go overboard! BigCol is doing up a Bora, he's being very thorough. I'm enjoying the thread I like the hands on stuff
