Hello all, opened my drivers door - 2011 Passat Estate, this morning and was met by an inch of water in the footwell.I checked the scuttle panel below the wipers (difficult)and found some leaves and muck trapped there. On the inside above the pedals it looked and felt dry.I checked the door seal and it did look wet along the bottom.Anybody else experienced this? Are the door seals at fault?I thought I had seen the last of wet footwells when I got rid of my B5.Any advice welcomed.Oh, no driving rain last night only a dusting of snow.

Have you had the car long? Has it perhaps had a windscreen replaced in the past?
Or do you use the aircon much? Perhaps the aircon drain hose has popped off. If I remember correctly, it routes to the driver's side of the center console.

Thanks, had the car 10 months,no replacement screen.I dried the carpets as best as I could and left the car at home today - there was about an inch of snow on it.When I came home from work today the footwell was again wet.I can only assme there is a blockage somewhere and the melting snow has somehow leaked inside.Does anyone know if there is any vital electrics under the drivers side.

Having the same problem with my golf at the moment but in the rear footwell. Think it is a sunroof drain that is causing my issue. Do you have a sunroof?

No theres no sunroof,I've dried the carpets as best as I could and put some trays in to catch any more water.

Checked again and the water is coming in the door seal.Crap on a 2011 car!

That's pretty poor for a car that's only 4 years old. Does the seals come under any kind of warranty?

Probably not and I'll bet it a total nightmare replacing them correctly,as you say pretty damn poor on a 4 year old car

Turns out the water is coming in where the cable for the bonnet lock comes through the bulkhead.Theres a rubber grommet that has split and with the build up of leaves and dirt in that area its prevented the water from draining away properly so its taken the easy route down the split grommet and into the car.Worth while to check your own.

Thanks for taking the time to post back with what you found. I didn't think it would be door seals on a newer model Passat. It's good to hear you managed to track it down and seal it up.

Cheers.

Jim.

Yes I'm happy its not door seals, like I said its worth checking your own - nothing worse than wet carpets!
