Evening

first post here,

I'm looking to buy an a4 sline to meet the needs of an expanding family.

Now i've toyed with the idea of getting a saloon. But feel an avant will suit family needs more than the saloon.

Im im looking at diesels due to work. And doing 60mile round trips 5 days a week. Now my budget is around 10-11k. With this sort of budget I am limiting my self to higher milage cars. Is this a wise move? I've seen 1 avant for sale within my budget but has 92k on clock. How are VAG diesels? I've had no experience with them. Having only owned several BMW's. With my current one being a diesel 120d.

thanks in advance for replies.

Personally can't see any reason not to go for the Avant, extra room and lower loading height always come in handy.

With respect to mileage vs age, I would avoid the higher mileage cars simply because your anual mileage will be above average so you will devalue the car more rapidly as time goes on, potentially leading you to have to replace it earlier than anticipated. I've fallen into that trap a couple of times. As a guide, check on Audis website for their used A4's - older lower mileage cars hold better prices than newer higher mileage ones.
I have heard that the real mpg figures BMW owners get is closer to factory specs than Audi, mines a 143 and I get around 42-44 mpg with a good mix of motorway and A road work

I wish you had another 2K on your budget as i am selling my 2009 A4 3.0 Tdi Quattro Avant with 72k on the clock for £13500. It will be on the market in around 4 weeks time as i need to downsize.

Wish I could buy private. But have outstanding finance on current car. So that needs to be worked into a deal.

Can you fit a pushchair in the back of the boot ok? Enquiring about the first one in first post. Awaiting response on finance from the guy

depends on pushchair size mate but our 'mamas and papas 3 in 1' one went in easy - something I learnt from having my two kids, pushchairs hardly ever get used and in the end you settle for something small and convenient anyway ;)

We have a chameleon 3 from bugaboo. It fitted into my wife's mondeo ok. Well...we had to put one of seats down but we did chuck it in the boot quite quick. Haha

saloons do seem easier to get hold of within my budget.

the a4 saloon does have biggest boot in its class - you could always take the buggy along to a dealership and try - think you will have more choice and poss get a better car if you can manage a saloon at that price range ;)
