Hi everyone, I own a 2010 plate Tiguan DSG 4 motion which has 40,100 miles on the clock. I remember taking my old golf mk5 in for DSG service at 40,000 so I thought I'd check the service book to see when it's due on my Tiguan. Rightly enough, in the book it says 'Service every 40,000 miles'. But when I called VW Martins they told me it was a sealed for life box. This came as a surprise to me as it the 6 speed version. I then called a local VW Audi specialist in Basingstoke and they told me exactly the same! So can someone please tell me why my 6 speed DSG box seems to be different to most other peoples, on various VW internet forums, as they all tell me that it defiantly should be serviced with new oil?!

I really don't want to do the wrong thing and have the box go before it gets to 60,000 miles, due to me not changing the oil.

No it certainly is not, 40K fluid and filter intervals, gear oil is also a good idea.

Thanks for the reply. You said what I was thinking. I have now phoned Audi in Guildford but they are refusing to see me as they have also stated that 'They can't physically change the oil in the gearbox as it has no drain plug'. I am now totally confused. Is there anywhere in the south of England that will carry out this service for me?

Could you find me your cars engine, transmission and vehicle (eg 5N1 039) type codes?

I can sort of see why they would be thrown a little, it is not a DSG! The MKD code box is an 09M series transmission similar to the 09G and 09K and is, I quote from the manual "The 6-speed automatic gearbox 09M has six hydraulically actuated forward gears. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gears, when locked up, become mechanically driven gears by eliminating torque converter slip", so it is a conventional automatic rather then a Dual Shift Gearbox which is an automated manual. These boxes are stated as being "Filled for life, no change" on both the ATF and the final drive, this is not to say it cannot be drained and refilled by/for the contentious owner, it most certainly can and there are procedures for this on the workshop information system ELSA and the special tool required is provided by VW, tool number "VAS 6262 A" and these instructions even show how this tools must be slightly modified for this purpose. It is all laid down for them in ELSA if they care to take a look where they can see the picture of the drain/level filling bung if they cannot find it on their own......

Many thanks for taking the time to find this out for me. The car was sold to me as a 'DSG' model gearbox, which is why I was so confused. Someone got back to me yesterday from Basingstoke Audi and told me that my gearbox was a dry clutch system, so no need to change oil!!! Makes you wonder if he just read that from a script. Looks like I'll just have to find an automatic gearbox specialist to do the job for me, as every main dealership and local indie do not seem to want to touch it.

Totally unbelievable, that person is lucky you do not tell Audi UK customers services what they said but then again they would just rally round and say something like "ohh he/she is unfamiliar with the brand VW"
