Morning all.

My car is in for a service today anyway, so I've asked them to look at this.
But over the last couple of days, I've had what I can only describe as a noisy bearing at motor way speeds. Not engine related as it only changes with road speed.

Car has only done 31,000 miles on a 62 plate, I was thinking that this was a bit soon for a failure.

Anyone experienced similar?

Cheers.

I had a similar sound at 50,000, which was cured by replacing a front wheel bearing.

Not very impressive!

some wheel bearings go for 300,000 miles, like the ones on my 80, but that was back in the 90's when proper ones were fitted. cheaper ones are used nowadays, some last a long time, some fail at an earlier age. thats life.

I've a front go at 130K, the other front at 160K and the first rear just replaced at 175K. I blame the 18" alloys and skinny tyres.

Bad news about the fronts is that it's the whole hub assembly that has to be replaced (££££), the rears as still a bearing cartridge type.

Confirmed by Ayr Audi this afternoon, O/S/F wheel bearing shot.
replaced under warranty.
Car is in overnight until it can be fitted tomorrow.

I have an A1 2.0 TDi courtesy car. Talk about pocket rocket. :naughty:

As long as new bearings are either FAG or SKF, then you should be good for 100k after replacement. Plus, fitting them properly is crucial. I had a rear wheel bearing nipped during fitting. Lasted a month before symptoms materialised again.
