Still sitting on the fence as to what way to go either the 2.0 tfsi or 3.0 tdi
I've read a few posts about the tfsi engine and huge oil consumption. Was this issue resolved? I've looked at a few oct 2011 and feb 2012 tfsi A4's and before I make a decision I was wondering if anyone knew if the engine problem was sorted by then?

Sister in law is looking at the 2.0 177ps. Any known issues with this engine. I had heard a few grumblings about the early 2.0 tdi but again does anyone know if this is a pretty solid engine now?

Thanks

Rob

Yes, 177ps is all good.

I was under the impression the 'real oil burner' issue (ie tfsi) is sorted too but don't quote me on that. Actually, the 1.8 looks like a good all rounder on paper.

Forgot to mention that I had a 143 tdi before which was solid too.

just the DMF let the side down.

Thanks for the reply. Her concern with the 2.0 tdi is based on her scirocco which has now flashed up a common rail issue and a friends 170bhp which has more dash lights that flash up that the average Christmas tree.

I really like the sound of the the TFSI but the earlier issues have me concerned.

I think the issue with oil comp on the TFSI was between 2008-2010, i have a 2010 TFSI 2.0 and love it, no oil issues, i come from a long line of diesel cars.

Me too. I have owned diesel cars as my main drive since I can't remember when. I've worked out that as long as a tfsi with Quattro returns at least 31.7mpg it'll be no worse off that the 2.7 I have at the mo

My A4 2.0TFSI Quattro Avant S-Tronic has 1700 miles on it and averages around 28mpg. And has used about 15% of the "measured" oil. Journies have been my commute of 17 miles each way, 2 miles town, 15 miles dual carriageway. 60mph going, 85 coming home. Mates 1.8TFSI fwd manual Avant, 50k, gets around 33mpg on a 35 mile each way commute around the M25. But no DPF to worry about and on newer diesels not AdBlue system. Plus petrol cars are cheaper touy than the diesels.

The 2.0T FSI oil consumption issues are from 2009 to 2011. I've had mine repaired and it is running much better. Performance is great and fuel consumption has gone up.

If you go for a TFSI and its within the oil issue engine range, just ask if it has had the oil consumption test and rebuild.

It wasnt easy, but I managed to get mine down that low yesterday evening thanks to a short 10 mile journey. ;-)
