Auto wipers question

Hi ive noticed that when my wipers are in auto mode they never go into top speed no matter how hard it rains . Are they just all like this or is there a fault ( top speed works in manual mode ) my car is a 2001 seat toledo v5

Hi Craig.
Yeah that's how it works. Basically the auto wipe is just a smart intermittent wipe. It just sends a signal to the motor to intermittently switch on speed 1 when the windscreen sensor gets wet.
If it's raining much more than a spit, I find it just becomes distracting the wiper operating at odd intervals.
