Hi guys,

I've got an Audi A3 (2007) and I wanna know:

1. how to turn it on or whether it comes o automatically

2. how to test it to see its working

Turn the electric mirror switch to the middle position and they will come on.

To test them, try spraying some fine water on them and see if it disappears quickly

yeah but the thing is I'm being told by Audi that it only comes on when the temperature is below a certain degrees...so wanted to find out from other users (of Audi A3's) whether this is true

In that case it comes on below 5 degrees and if you put your rear heated window on its activated that way. (As far as I remember)

Just to clarify and backup what M1tchy has said, I see that you have also made a thread about this on another forum: A3 (2007) Heated Side Mirrors | Audi-Sport.net (http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/a3-2007-heated-side-mirrors.228529/) The person who has quoted the manual directly in post #12 clarifies the switch positions. I shall repost the quote here:

"the mirrors are heated depending on the outside temperature and vehicle speed until the ignition is switched off, even if the knob is no longer in position "O " (knob pointing forward on the mirror adjuster.)
So as M1tchy says, the middle position on the switch is where you switch on the mirror heaters on demand, regardless of the temperature etc. When the switch is in any other position, the mirrors are heated depending on the outside temperature and vehicle speed until the ignition is switched off:

In that case it comes on below 5 degrees and if you put your rear heated window on its activated that way. (As far as I remember)

It's a simple check to check the heater element resistance after un-clipping the mirror glass.

Or crack an egg on it and put the heated mirrors on. If they work you will have a fried egg, if they don't you will have a mess.
