Has anyone else having first signs of RUST ?.
My 2009 Golf plus, full main dealer service history, owned since new and never been near a paint shop
has a raised area / scab approx size of a small finger nail on the sill, only visible when the door is opened.
The VW dealers body shop has inspected this and states it's a zinc inclusion imperfection that's only covered for 5 yrs from 1st registration.
Mines over 5 years, the dealers said as a goodwill , 75% contribution warranty claim has been applied for.
I have to wait for VW approval (this could be rejected)
Who expects a so called quality car, 5 1/2 years old to start rusting?
Why should I pay the 25% towards the repair cost.

VW 12 year anti perforation warranty ????.

Shame on you VW.

I saw the exact same corrosion problem on a 2009 S4 Cabrio last week and rust is becoming an ever increasing problem on VAG products. The rust we have seen on the floor of numerous Touran's is unbelievable. I have a 2010 Golf 6 GTI in at the moment and all over the boot floor the spot welds are showing this same problem as yours and I have heard it called "galvanic lift".

This is a VW warranty info picture of the problem on a Golf 5 wing, they say nothing about 5 years and recently UK VW dealers have been given the OK by the importer and VW to OK rust repairs without referring back to save time. Quote them "Technical product information Transaction No.: 2029663/1 Pre authorisation waiver for specific corrosion repairs claimable under warranty or factory goodwill (UK TPI) Release date: 15-May-2012"

The picture below is of the floor of a Touran that was only a few years old and what's more this is not my picture, it is VW's own!

2564825649Here is a couple of pics of my so called 'zinc inclusions'.
Mines a bit minor compared to the other images.
Thanks for the advice Crasher.

The rust I saw on the S4 sill was proper rust, peeling back the sealant at the leading edge and brown, what you have there is a reaction of the zinc to air in protecting itself from a chip.
