Hello everone,
First post on here, I have just bought an (58) A4 Avant 2.0 TDi SE Multitronic, loving it so far. Question is, allthough its a SE spec, it has S Line 18" five spoke alloys fitted, but the tyre sizes differ between back and front, 245/40/18 rear and 225/40/18 front. I remember my rear drive BMW having staggered tyres on staggered rims, but am I correct in thinking the fronts are the wrong size, or was this ever an option?

It will state the correct tyre sizes for rim diameter on the sticker inside the driver's door. Pretty sure they should be 255 width all round on18's.....

I'm pretty sure it's 245 45 18 all round on the A4.....

Thanks guys, sticker on door states only 245/40 R18 93Y for summer tyres (or 225/45/18 and 245/40/18 in XL on M + S winter tyres) Looks like fronts will have to be changed.

245/40/18 is the standard for the S Line wheels. According to the door sticker on mine it can also take 225/45/18 but I've never seen that size referenced in any of the brochures.

My bad, I'm rnning OEM 19's which require 255.

Good call mina08! I always run fully matching tyres and would recommend everyone does (essential for Quattros!). I've never understood why anyone would drive around with different grip, traction, ride and handling characteristics on each corner and, to be honest, I'm surprised it's even legal to do so - matching pairs (per axle) should be a minimum legal requirement in my opinion.

I've seen a number of pretty serious 'tank-slappers' in my years, largely down to odd rubber. Not such a problem with modern cars/driver aids and ESP/TC etc. but tyre performance varies widely between brands and tread patterns.....

Yes car been into Audi today, for Multitronic fluid change and health check, technician pointed out one of fronts was low on tread, I said I'm more concerned about tyre size! he said "oh yes sir, they are the wrong size" so will be replacing with correct size 245/40/18
Thanks guys!
