Oil change service is due, and to keep costs as low as possible I plan to do as much my self as possible. I will get my local garage to replace the oil and stamp my book. I plan to replace the oil, air and maybe the fuel filter myself. From reading my elsawin, I’m supposed to replace the filter then extract the oil, then refill. My question is, would it be ok if I changed the filter my self the night before the service, then drove 10 miles to from car off for oil change, or would it be better to get the oil change first, then change the filter when I get the car home? I guess im anxious about dirtying a new filter from old oil, or contaminating new oil from a dirty filter!
Also, how difficult is it to replace the fuel filter?

thanks

Why not get the garage to oil and oil filter change - you can supply your own filter if costs are that critical. Then do the air and fuel filter yourself.

I have one. And noticed you need it to pump fuel through or something

Oil and filter from Audi are only about £48 if you get say 15% discount which is yours for the cost of a smile.
Then do the change yourself and know it has been done properly and that you have had a good look underneath to see if all is well.
It is a very easy job and in this weather, a pleasure.

I was more concerned about getting a stamp as proof of being done? I could easily do the filters and oil. What's your thoughts on service book traceability?

Sorry, correction-oil and filter may be a bit more for your 3.0. I was thinking of a 2.0 tdi

I have been using this oil to top up since owning the car for two years. I presume this is acceptable for complete lol change? I guess it's around 6 litres I need?

If that is VW 504-507, it is probably good, but looks more expensive than buying from Audi.

I might give them a shout actually. That way I can at least put Audi parts back in which is something.

You will have an invoice for the oil and filter to stick with your service records!

i would stamp a service book if the customer has a service. just changing the oil is not a service and would not earn you a stamp in your service book, even if you gave me scouts honour that you would change all the filters yourself. if you want the stamp, pay for the service. if you want to do it yourself, accept the fact the book will be missing a stamp.

Well I'm not gonna fiddle the books. I'll just fill the section in the logbook And self certify it. Retaining invoices for parts.

you need vcds to do fuel filter

Does that apply to all variants? I had mine done a couple of thousand miles ago, and no VCDS was used?

From what ive been reading bro, If the fuel filter, the fuel lines or the supplementary fuel pump are renewed, it is important to bleed the fuel system before the engine is started for the first time.

The high-pressure pump must be filled with fuel before the engine is started (the pump must NOT be allowed to run while still empty).

There is a procedure to fill high-pressure pump with fuel which would involve VCDS or similar.

It will run fuel pump for for approx. 3 minute to ensure that the high-pressure pump is filled with sufficient fuel.

im paraphrasing some things ive read!

Quote from my local dealer today total for parts was £97 which I didn’t think was too shabby for two filters and 10L oil. Said he done me a deal as they only supply them in 5L drums, and I only need 6.9L. but that’s cool as it gives me top up oil.
10L Quantum (which I believe is rebranded Castrol Edge) for £60
