My 98 TDii is making what i thought was a whel bearing noise. definitely road speed related noise, so i changed the o/s wheel bearing. it's still there! Goes quiet when i steer right and gets louder steering left. Also when i go over a bumpy or riplped surface goes and comes back as the weight transfers on and off the wheels.Sound is offside off centre.
Any one confirm it's the intermediate driveshaft bearing and if changing it is a removal of the driveshaft and hand the lot over to a garage for some heat and hydraulic pressing or feasible fix at home?

Hi 2manykids,

It looks like I'm having the exact same problem that you were having 12 months ago with my 98 TDi. Could you please help me in understanding the problem, I have change the wheel bearing myself but the sound is still there only it's changed in pitch and intensity. Did you ever solve this problem??
