:( Can someone please give me an idea how to get the remaining stud out of the head. Do I need any special type drill bits and how do I drill it out without wrecking the thread?

Thanks in anticipation

Chris

has the stud broken off or just stuck? a stud extractor should get it out.

Thanks for the reply ...... It's snapped off flush with the head onzarob. Are stud extractors a generic tool? .... easy to use?

If you cant weld a nut onto it, soak the area in penetrating oil and drill/dremmel a small hole so that you can use an easy-out & impact driver.

Thanks ini ...... I have a dremmel ... will a small drill bit that came with it manage it or can you buy tungsten carbide bits to fit? Just a bit worried about drilling into the head.

With a stud extractor, you drill a hole the size you're told, screw the jobbie into the hole. As it's a left handed thread, the more you tighten it, the more it digs in and it'll start unscrewing the stud.

Similar thing happened to me with a rocker cover bolt. Shat myself, but the extractor saved me!

Thanks for that Herby ...... found a "backstreet" VW specialist and they're going to do it sometime this week for £50 ...... that'll save the underpants .....
