Hi guys,

Just bought a 2008 Golf GT TDI 170 on 70k with a FVWSH and wanted to know if there's any preventative maintenance I can do to keep it running at it's optimum?

I've read an EGR clean might be a good place to start?

Some people also mention using 'Forte' diesel treatment?

Would anything else be worth looking at?

Any advice would be massively appreciated! :D

Thanks,

Ben

Just service it properly and regularly in accordance with your handbook. I service my TDI every 10,000 miles and only use quality diesel such as BP Ultimate and Shell V-Power Nitro+ which have their own cleansing additives. The car then rarely gives me a problem. Now on 106k miles, other than regular servicing it has only needed one rear coil spring and the odd bulb/lamp. Keep your eye on the bonnet catch too - they rust and stop working properly - I've had to have mine off for a thorough clean and lubrication.

Renew the timing belt & pulleys, water pump and fresh coolant every 4 years (or 60,000 miles whichever comes soonest).

Fuel injector problems were subject to a recall a few years ago depending on engine code. If affected, yours should have been replaced by now.

Renew your brake fluid every 2 years. If your ESP light comes on and stays on then the ABS Pump Module failure, which is well known, may well have occurred. ECU Testing do a repair service. http://www.ecutesting.com/vw_golf_touran_abs_pump_module.html

Good luck Ben.
