Just finished oil change on wife's polo and can't for the life of me work out how to get the old filter out the holder. Does this need to be replaced as a full unit (surely not) or is there something i'm missing. I've tried twisting/pulling as much as i dare without breaking something. Can anyone shed some light? The pics show the replacement filter next to what i've just removed from the engine block. Running the new oil with old filter until i can get some pointers - what a carry on....

Thanks for any info.

Just get a screw driver and pry the old filter out of the housing...simples!

It does feel like it's locked into the base and also looks like it is attached to the pointed part pretty solidly. I take it the filter slides right over the top of this? Just feel like I'm going to snap something and then I'll be right up the creak :)

Just seems like a silly design - my Saab has same design filter and it just sits in the housing when replacing - takes seconds...

Used a screwdriver to gently lever the old filter out and new one just slotted back over and clicks into place. Job done :D

Thanks for the replys.
