As you already know, the A7 had to go. In fact is has now been gone for a few weeks and has since been sold on by an Audi dealer in the West Midlands.

Very sad to see it go but I couldn't justify running the A7 plus paying company car tax at the same time.

So the new company car arrived this morning.

It's not an A7, it's not got 6 cylinders and it's not Quattro but at the same time it doesn't feel as big a step down as I thought it would. Indeed in some places, it makes the A7 feel positively old fashioned. I'll still hang around to answer questions but for now it's off to the dark side.

At least I was still able to stay German

I would love to hear your view on the 5 series. I narowly chose the A7 3 years ago because I thought the 5 series steering was a bit vague. Contrary to all press reports. I must have been wrong.

The sidewall on those tyres must be a 50 for sure!

Give me a couple of weeks with it and I will report back. First impressions are not as different as I expected but lets get a few miles on the clock first. Im not sure if it's right to compare where the 5 cost HALF what the A7 did

So the A7 had 255/45 R18. This has 225/55 R17 on it

It's no A7 but looks nice all the same. Do you have anymore pictures? What spec did you get? Anything fancy?

It's a 520D SE with absolutely no options on it as that is our company car policy. The only thing I am missing toys wise (apart from a couple of cylinders and Quattro) is HUD and top end music. Everything else that I had on my A7 is standard on a base Spec 520D which has quite surprised me.

Anyway more pictures here and a write up to come in a week or so

Just wondering, on pic.8 it seems like it has a full "black panel", that cannot be standard on a base model?

Yes it is LCD at the bottom and yes it is standard across the range. To be fair, "poverty spec" is quite impressive. Other surprising "standard" bits include Xenon lights, heated seats, leather, DAB, heated self dipping mirrors (inside and out), keyless start, Business Navigation and full BMW connected drive (and I don't need to supply a SIM card for it to work)

The "upgrade" option is now to the Multi Function dash as shown in this video

Ok, yes I know about the standard black panel in the bottom, but it looks like extended black panel including the speedo, like in the F07 (GT)

The brochure calls it out as "Full Black Panel Display" with the only option above that being multi function and the video you linked to is exactly the same as what I am seeing in mine so yes, it does indeed look like it is standard.

Looks very nice indeed.

I'm thinking about going back into our car scheme (my current car was the last co car I had 7 years ago) and the A6/7 can't get near the 5-series on lease costs for me. To the tune of £150 difference between a 520D and an Ultra both in their most basic spec.

The 5-series spec surprised me too. The only thing I'd need to add to a 520 or 530 DSE Touring would be some larger alloys and the pro navigation although that's not really necessary to be honest. It works out cheaper than a similarly specced 3-series on our scheme.

Enjoy your new car. :wiggle:
