Hi all,

New member here. I do not currently have an Audi but am a fellow car nut. For the last four years my brother has driven a a 2001 S4 avant in Switzerland and absolutely loves it.

Yesterday I drove a 1997 A6 Avant 2.5 TDI Quattro 5 cylinder with 155,000 miles. The car was very impressive.

1) Does anyone know the power and torque figure for this car ? (Please excuse Audi ignorance, the car has a big fat red "I" at a slanted angle on the rear badge, the small "S"? badges on the steering wheel and "back of leg" extenders that pull out from the front two seats)

2) Does anyone have a value on this car. (Two long term owners, good original condition, totally standard, 155k mls, we think it has very new shocks all round etc etc)

Any help would be most appreciated,

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I would say mine is the older shape but strangely the interior looks modern with all the sport? trim. 16" 6? spoke wheels etc.

Was the 2.5TDI quattro five cylinder engine fitted to the two two body shapes you mention ?

Strangely I can't find any info on this car. I'm looking forward to finding out the exact model and power so I can decide if i'm going to start looking after it.

Regards,

Mark.

Hi, yours its the old shape C4. Its bassically an old audi 100 with a facelift. The quattro models are quite rare and finding one in good condition and low milleage is difficult. The one you drive has the 140 Bhp/280 Nm, 5 cyl AEL engine and came standard with a 6 speed gearbox. It will return high 40 Mpg on he motorway and pull like a train when needed ! You will be pleased with it ! Watch for airmass meters( verry expensive, dealer only items) and faulty climate controls. Otherwise the car and engine are bulletproof.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for getting back to me, thanks for the info.
Compared to a four year old BMW 530D sport with 187 BHP this Audi did not feel much slower / less powerful.
I take the big red "I" on the boot lid denotes 140 BHP on this model ?
Is this essentially the old Audi 5 Cylinder petrol engine changed to TDI ?

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Mark
Don't pay more than £4,000-£4,500. I think the torque figure is 370Nm, if it is 6 speed.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for getting back to me with your help.

Do you still think it's still 140 BHP with the 370Nm torque figure ?

Cheers,

Mark.

The old c4 audi a6 (same as audi 100 !) only had 280 Nm and 140 Bhp (AEL engine code !) 5 cyl. engine/6 speed manual gearbox as standard(4 speed auto gearbox optional) and 115 Bhp AAT engine code that had a 5 speed gearbox. The later v6 engine (fitted on a4/a6/a8/vw passat) had 150 Bhp and 370 Nm- engines code AFB/AKN . Then they upped the power to 180 Bhp/400 Nm on the a4/a6, engine code AKE.
