MMI control console lighting sometimes isn't lit

Hi All

A couple of times I have started my car (2007 D3) at night only to find that the MMI control console / gear shift selector unit lighting wasn't lit. All other lighting in the car appeared to be working correctly. I discovered by accident that I could get the non-functioning lights working again by adjusting the intensity of the instrument lighting. It's only happened twice in the past six months of daily use, so definitely intermittent. Anyone else experienced this or know what is going on? (No fault codes.)

Over the years various bits occasionally haven't illuminated until turned off and on.
Maybe due to low battery and cranking voltage drop or a fluke - no idea.
Maybe instrument illumination CANbus messages not being received by all modules.
I don't think it's anything to worry about.
