The ABS & brake warning lights on my car have been going on and off intermittently. I had a diagnostic test months ago and it looked like the rear left ABS sensor. This was replaced yesterday (albeit a bit late) at a total cost of £190. However, the fault still exists and I have been told that 5 hrs labour is required to check the wiring. Does this seem like a con? FYI the dealer is Dovercourt, Battersea and I have the feeling they are taking me to the cleaners here!

Appreciate any advice at all!

Did you take the car in to have the initial fault fixed? They haven't done that, the problem still remains - you may have some comeback there.

or was it taken in to have the ABS sensor replaced. They have done this, they did what you asked them to do.

You say the fault still exists, have you hooked the car up to have the fault codes read? Do you have the codes that were pulled the first time, maybe you can post them up here?

As for checking the wiring, I imagine it's a complex job for a specialist. Do you know any indy auto-electricians you can take it too?

sure the codes are

17978 ECU
& 18057 data bus

Basically it seems to be an electrical fault but could be anything from a wiring issue to an ECU fault to a connection fault. I don't want to fork out hundreds to have it fixed!

If you need any more info from me then please ask... i appreciate your help!

Ok, here's what the codes mean;

17978 P1570 Contr.Module Locked

and

18057 P1649 Data Bus Powertrain Missing message from ABS Control Module

It looks as though you may have some CCM problems - have you ever suffered damp in the car? I'm not too familiar with the Polo setup, so I can't say whether they have the same issues as the Passats, but the CCM can be found under the driverside carpet.
