Last week and this evening has seen a few new additons to the Q7.

MMi3 was taken out and Plus was put in. New 5F with Sim and MMI Control panel update. down side it took over 5 hours to do and most of that was software. One downside that we found out with the upgrade is the Bose Amp didnt like the updeate and had to be taken out and re-flashed which took another 3 hours.

And i can confirm that the new 2012 FB MFSW works well with all functionality on a 2010 chassis. if you are going to do the upgrade on the wheel you will need an old harness £25 from Audi as the newer connectors wont fit the old slip ring. All in all it took about an hour.

Looks good, what was involved in the change then, is it mainly just software.
Does the connect part work?

The connect does work but only with Weather, News, events etc. because the Connect service needs a pin code to activate, it can only be done when you buy the car.

And after a bit of coding and activation on the hidden menu the Sim works well with a google maps and hotspot. I got a "3" sim Pre loaded with 12GB which lasts for 12 months.

The changing of the 5F and panel didn't take long at all. But taking out the Bose Amp was a task.

The big question, was it worth it and good value for money.

Was it worth it? For me yes as I'm in the car all the time. But value For money depends on if you can get the kit cheap enough and you need to know someone with VAS and the software updates.

The media side is really god with album artwork and films. But only if you spend ages on long trips.

Nav gives you full post code and with the Sim you can search for online destinations and also find the cheapest petrol stations

What parts do you class as the kit????

Is VAS the dealer kit they use for software updates and that stuff, because off topic but early Q7's had a software update to change the speeds at which the suspension dropped to reduce tyre wear something i have been trying to do on mine as lowering at 75mph and 100 is no good in the uk. Perhaps the vas can alter the speeds?????

The parts you need is the 5F unit which is the CD/DVD unit above your climate controls, and the MMI control buttons need changing.

If VCDS doesn't allow you to alter the ride height then I'm sure VAS would be the only option. If it doesn't then it will be hard coded and inchangable

How come you needed to reflash then as i thought the dash part with the sim/sd/dvd was the brains of the unit anyway.
What is the differences between a 3g control panel and 5f unit and the plus versions then?

MMI 3G us totally different software and hardware so new unit and new software. The standard MMI panel has the buttons in different locations for some reason.

Hi did we get any further on with the part numbers please.
Looking about part wise you will get back a healthy chunk selling your 3g bits once you have upgraded to the 3g+.
You said about the pin required for some parts, can you not get this from a dealer?

Ok cheers and no problem.
Was it just the control panel and the dvd, sim,sd card(guessing hard drive too) that needed changing or was there any other modules as found a nice silver V12 tdi one but with the + button layout.
