Hi, Just joined this forum as I am in need of help for my sons Audi A4 2.0TDI 2005, car broke down last week, been told oil pump failure, which has resulted in engine seized. OUCH
checked turbo that's ok.......I am now looking for a recon engine, thinking of just the block then will transfer other parts over.

ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED IN PUTTING FORWARD ANY CONNECTINS FOR A ENGINE.

Thanks

pete

If you have access to the vehicle, if you remove your engine cover and on the top timing belt cover you will see your engine code on the sticker.

engine code BLB

The BLB engine code was the most common for the drive of the balance shaft assembly to fail causing oil pump failure. If you are going to fit a new complete engine i would recommend only fitting one that has had the balance shaft conversion to a gear driven assembly rather than the chain driven assembly that commonly fails. I have found a company here that sell re-conditioned engines for your engine code that have been changed to the gear driven assembly - Audi engines BLB 2.0 tdi rebuilt engine (http://www.enginesod.com/audi-engines/blb-20-tdi-rebuilt-engine-755-10-639.php)

I would also be making sure your turbo has not been damaged as the turbo is normally the first failure with a oil pressure fault like you have experienced.

If we can assist you any further don't hesitate to contact us.

Huge thanks for information I will follow it up ASAP.
jut one thing you said to go for gear assembly, reason I am asking is that a bloke at a recon engine garage just said I need a chain driven ?????

The BLB engine code does originally come with chain assembly for the balance shaft but if you attempt to buy a balance shaft from Audi they will only supply you with a gear driven balance shaft because this is the superceeded improved unit. I have fitted many new balance shafts in my 10 years experience as a main dealer Audi Qualified technician and have never replaced a chain driven balance shaft with a chain driven balance shaft, I have always fitted a gear driven balance shaft.

I'm not saying that you cannot buy the parts to repair a chain driven assembly but from experience the gear driven assemblies are more reliable and less noisey.

I would only fit an engine that has had the gear driven balance shaft modification.

Cheers

...once again, perhaps you'd like to clarify who the "us" is you're referring to in your post.

I'm sure, as you've only just registered, our rules are still very fresh in your mind.
