I can give nothing but praise to the most expensive graphics card you can afford. A mate recently upgraded to a gtx 750ti (about £120) and says his game Battlefield 4 now plays on ultra settings with no crashes so far, he was crashing 2/3 times a day when playing and complained he couldn't hit ****.
Obviously more expensive is better with higher rated DDR but there has to be a cut off where graphic card is throttled by slower PC. I saw a PC in a magazine advertised at £2500 as a gaming rig but that is out of most folks budget.
Have a look at Video Card Comparison - GPUReview.com (http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php) and compare yours with more updated cards.

Another thing to remember, once you've got it, it'll be poor after a year or so!
