Hi I've got a Audi Q5 3.0tdi Multitronic which is just beginning to show some odd gearbox signs. In normal use you sometimes get a judder when coming to a stop and also in reverse it's very sluggish. Recently I drove it about 100 yard backwards and the gearbox malfunction light came on. It went away once restarting the car.

I'm wondering if anyone knows a good independent gearbox specialist in Hampshire (I'm just north of Southamptn) who'd be worth a shout on this. I'm loathed to take it to Audi as I've heard all the stories of huge expense on gearboxes and incompetence.

Thanks!
Ben

Q5s don't have multitronic as they're all 4WD unless something dramatic has changed.

What year is the car? Miles? You need it scanned for faults and don't always assume any fault until this has been done.

It will be an S tronic box, although I am sure that they were not launched until 2009. Its very expensive, but best to take it to Audi as a first option for diagnostics. If full Audi service history, then they may pay for most of it under merchantable quality rules. Failing that, you need to find an expert. Try google. Here is one that does DSG which is the smae as S tronic. Automatic Gearbox Repair Nottingham | DSG Repair Nottingham (http://www.gearboxnottingham.co.uk/gearbox-dsg-repair)
