Hi all, do you get the Google traffic "jam" in red, and "open roads" n Google Earth ?


My Google maps have red and green roads all the time, seems more like road definitions, i.e. highway in red, and others in yellow


This is what I want, and do not have:

I see your car is a 2011 model so the first question is "did you buy the car new"?

If not then the online services can't be transferred easily (or at all if the first owner didn't register for the service in the first 6 months).

So do you have the ONLINE box in the bottom left hand corner as shown in the picture above? If no then this option may simply be unavailable to you

This is what the Audi MMI website says


The reception of online traffic data must be enabled under INFO >> Settings. This option can be set as follows:
Default setting “off”; alternatively, via TEL >> Settings >> Connections >> Data Connections >> Traffic Data

In addition to the display of the traffic flow data, another map view is available, namely “Traffic”, which can be set in the same way as the Google Earth view and standard view:
NAV >> Settings >> Map View

To improve the clarity of the display, this map view contains fewer colours than the standard map. The Audi online traffic information icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen is only visible in the same way as the TMC/TMCpro icon if the dynamic congestion avoidance function is enabled:
NAV >> Criteria >> Dyn. Congestion Avoidance

The current traffic flow is indicated by coloured lines:

green: free flowing traffic
orange: slow-moving traffic
red: traffic jam
Traffic obstructions such as roadworks, traffic jams, road closures, etc. are displayed by shadings in all the map views, whereas traffic flow information is only displayed in the traffic map.

Is it possible to activate “Audi online traffic information” later, provided that the vehicle is enabled for Audi connect?
Unfortunately, at present, subsequent activation of the Audi connect service “Online traffic information” is not possible.

If the previous owner didn't register it then there is no way to fix this.

I tried my dealer and Audi and just got blank looks last time round but feel free to have a go yourself and report back :beerchug:

but note that you do have all the other functions on the list already

The only thing that would give you would be google traffic instead of TMC

I do not intend to buy this thing, wat it was thinking was to try the green meny thingy, and then might get to re-license online services?

I have read all your post and I have same problem as yours (fighting with audi dealers more than 1 year)



I have som expirences with this issue and I can share my information with you.

First of all lets discuss whats cars we have
Mine is 2012 and MY2012 and yours?



I got information from audi that it can works start from 45 week 2012 without possiblity to turn on this feature its curios cause that:

Utilisation rights for Traffic information online for 36 months from initial activation (insofar as this takes place within 6 months of the vehicle's initial registration; otherwise the utilisation rights are reduced accordingly) without additional utilisation fees. Your Audi Partner will be happy to inform you of any extension options and their associated costs

so it isnt a problem if someone will not activate it withing first 6 months.

My car has build in slot for SIM card - have you same solution?


do u have in your menu - info - settings -- traffic online on/off then below check licence or not? I have menu where I can check my license but after choose it I got message - impossible to access to server - try later.

I try to help you - hope modifications which I made in my cars will help you (even it still doesnt works in mine)

To me it seems that whatever the sd card is installing, the only visible difference seems to be enabling the hidden menu.
The whole purpose of this is to enable online traffic, and get better network performance.
I was hoping that doing the changes in the hidden menu would magically reveille the activate license part in settings :-)

I have situation as you can see at atached photos - checking license then message currently the query cannot be
processed. I have it all the time from the begining

I had the same problem: I can't find the way to enable the online traffic in the hidden menù.
I have the same options as paszczak in /navi/tmc in the hidden menù but I'm able to see the Online Traffic Data.
Can someone tell me what enable in the hidden menu for the online tmc?

I add it myself.
I have a unit 666 without sim but I added with ami usb the internet connection.
I enabled google earth, audi connect and search poi with Google: all these are ok.
I have a problem to enable traffic online because changing hidden menu there is no "Online traffic data" in info page of MMI

I have a unit 666 without sim but I added with ami usb the internet connection.
I enabled google earth, audi connect and search poi with Google: all these are ok.


i have same (non sim) unit and would be very interested to get the google stuff to work. i presume this is using a mobile phone with data connection using the ami cabl? arevthe step by step instructions anywhere in the forums?

Yes. All is working. My TMC online license is valid for 3 years.


What's value had you before in channel 69? What's value now?

As I wrote I set bit 15. It means add 32768 to your previous value.

Yes it's correct value now you should have 32783 in channel 69. I was outside yesterday and forget numbers good you find it
I have problem with getting license. Did you see my screenshots? Is possible to get coding of your 5f for compare with mine?

Lane assist uses its own camera to read the lines. ACC has it's own camera and HBA has it's own camera too. The traffic sign recognition camera shares the lane assist camera.

I went into 5F, section 10, changed the channel 69 value from 8 to 32768
that is all I did, nothing in the hidden menu.
License for 36 months
Audi A7 my11, sold in Germany as new, and no license activated when new.

That's interesting. I've tried but can't get the traffic recognition to work. I've got it to the stage where it is an option on the MMI, but still doesn't work. Don't suppose you would be willing to share your cars coding for the traffic sign recognition module?

Had the car for over a year and no probs. This last week has been hit and miss re working. Yday was fine. Today nothing all day.

I went out today and hit some main roads, still no TMC data as I never get it out here but did have online data and did get plenty of info on screen.

But you have had it all the time right?

I've not had a working SIM card in for a few weeks so don't know. I got a new SIM card a few days ago and not had any problems since I put it in.

Yep all as it should be and up till week has been. Only thing missing was actual traffic which was bizarre given time of year and I did the M3 for 70 miles down and back again. Green lines all the way

FYI there's a thread over in the A6 forum. Online traffic stopped working (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?163149-Online-traffic-stopped-working)

Online Traffic Data is still working for my car (compared it enabled vs disabled & only using TMC), but it has not got anything like as much data as it previously had before December.
