View Full Version : Insurance and re-mapping

Can anyone recommend me a mainstream insurance company who will consider cover after a Stage 1 remap? Current insurer has just refused me to remap my A4 1.9 TDi 115 bhp to 140 bhp, and it really is painfully slow indeed (and bizarrely seems very heavy on fuel). I struggle to understamd why as they were happy enough with my previous A4 which was 130 bhp (and nice and swift).

I am about to start the tedious process of ringing around, but this post may help narrow the search! I don't really want to go through one of the small specialists, would rather use a mainstream name.

Thanks in advance.

A remap is a modification from standard. Their refusal has nothing to do with the power of the vehicle.

Personally I've had continued success with Adrian Flux.

We - VWAF - have two insurance sponsors accessed via the cleverly named "Insurance" tab in the forum header above.

If you're using a mobile device/tapatalk follow this link here (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?205-VW-Audi-Forum-Approved-Insurance-Schemes)

Thanks mycarsavw. I didn't post there as I would rather go to a mainstream insurer than one of the small ones, and the sponsored forum (not unreasonably) seemed to be almost exclusively Chris Knott.

Understand that it's a mod, but if done properly the end result to me seems to be the same thing, but there we go. The big boys don't seem to like any modifications.

Having just bought it and otherwise happy with it, I don't want to sell again and look for a 130bhp, but I find it almost undriveable. I would never want to try to overtake anything in it!

I think you misunderstood me, there's no need to post there, just ring them both for quotes and see what they say.

If you want mainstream and modified, your options are very limited. There are a few who will allow a modification - Elephant, Admiral are two who have been mentioned here before.

The end result is the same, yes, but you're modifying the vehicle from standard specification which makes most mainstream insurers panic and automatically deny to give you any quotes.

I would class Adrian Flux as mainstream they have been kicking about for a long time!
