Hi all,

Looking at buying an A4 S-Line to replace my current motor. My budget is around 12k-14k and ideally I don't want anything with over 50k on the clock. Was wondering if anyone on here had any tips (other than the usual kick of the tyre) on what to look out for when buying a used A4.

I drove my mates 1.8 (160) which was fast enough for me however if I can get my hands on a 2.0 (211) I'd be made up.

Was surprised to see that the 2.0 had better fuel economy figures that the 1.8, is it a newer/more efficient engine?

Any tips or pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

Only to mention often the slightly larger engine will have better fuel economy as it will have to work a lot less harder to get up to speed. And on the motorway etc it will find it easier to maintain it's speed.
It's like you running against usain bolt. You would still use more energy than him as he would find it a lot easier and barely break a sweat

The 1.8T Petrol I have will average 45mpg, so don't assume the 2.0 TDI is better because a lot of people on here claim lesser figures. But if you are spending as much on the car as you say then saving a few pennys on fuel shouldn't be an issue. The only thing that is bad about my petrol is that it drinks oil, so check the oil level, if it's down to 1/2 I would be suspicious.. but other than that it will be hard to tell unless you have driven it for a week or so...

Think he means the 2.0 petrol as he has quoted 211 hp
