Have read a few horror stories about swirl flaps breaking in the inlet and getting sucked into the engine. I don't know how common this is, I know BMW's seem to suffer from it, not sure how common it is in VAG engines but in most cases it seems to cause mega damage when it occurs. All this has got me thinking about how easy/difficult it would be to remove them.

From what I've read they don't do a great deal, mainly for emissions purposes it seems, so I wondered if anyone has removed them and what the process entails. I'd imagine just pulling them out of the manifold would cause some ECU errors or rough running problems and then there is the issue of disabling the motor that controls them.
