I know this has been covered before elsewhere but all the posts are old and the links are dead hence my new thread....

I have a 1998 A4 Avant AFN TDi and there is a leak from the fuel pump...

All the unions and joints have been checked and tightened where found to be a little loose but the leak, albeit a slow drip persists. Even with the use of a mirror, the source of the leak cannot be identified...

My questions are as follows:

Where does the leak usually originate from??

What parts are required to repair it? Where are they available IN THE UK? Any part numbers?

Can the leak be fixed with the pump on the car??

Where can the 3 sided tool' if required, be found again IN THE UK??

Any one got an 11mm pump I can have instead?? http://forums.tdiclub.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forums.tdiclub.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I think it's leaking from either the cut off valve (easy fix) or the quantity adjuster (hard fix) or the pump seal (hard complex fix) TDI-pumpseal-1.mpg - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR44StvcXms&list=WL4776C0A9F888DDBD)

I have described the reasons why I have posted this subject on here...

I wondered if anyone could assist me in locating the correct parts as there are many, many dead links and controversy over which parts are the right ones and which ones are the wrong...

I have spent far too many hours trying to locate an answer to my question and so far have not got anywhere.

I cannot honestly say your input has helped; a blurred youtube clip and and a stupid comment.

If the post offends you that much you feel the need to add silly comments, please feel free to ignore the thread.

Just please leave your sarcasm out of this forum post.

Please, anyone else, feel free to try and assist, I still don't know where the leak is coming from nor where to get the required parts and if necessary, specialist tools.

Any genuine input will be greatly appreciated.

I sent you a link to vagcat which will show you an exploded diagram of every part of your car with a part number.

The VAGCAT link is great.... but I do not speak Russian.

A possible location of where the leak is coming from is what I need.

And before you say it, its from the IP somewhere, but where is the mystery.

I don't speak Russian either the site is useful for getting part numbers.
Where is the leak coming from? I think the pump seal. This is a large rubber ring behind where the injector pipes are connected. You need to partially dismantle the pump to change it and you need to know what you're doing. This seal might only leak fuel at higher revs/pressures. Crasher's posts on your other pump question had really clear illustrations. It could also be leaking at the quantity adjuster plate on the top of the pump. Again it's not easy to repair and you can have problems getting the pump spot on afterwards. http://www.dieselbob.co.uk/ will do a good rebuild on your pump but as Crasher has already said the setup on the timing is critical and you need special tools and VCDS to get it right. You could buy a used pump but it could have the same problem. I don't know what your spannering level is but a DIY on the pump seals would cost pennies
