Hi folks,

Have been thinking of using veg, sunflower oil instead of diesel. Or 50/50 mix. My passat is a 1995 1.9td, (AAZ) and has a Bosch fuel pump. Can anyone tell me if this engine is okay for doing this, or have experience doing so?

Cheers

Stephen

How much can you get it for? It's dearer than the very expensive Irish diesel. Zollaf runs an Audi 80 on waste veg oil, his car is modified but he could probably give you some pointers. I doubt it would start on veg oil in Perth this time of year :)

Better update my location, in Caithness now! Tesco had a deal on sunflower oil, £10 for 10 litres, so bout 40p cheaper a litre. Just thinking about it. I don't want to end up needing to replace the fuel pump. I believe the Bosch pumps are generally okay with it. But happy for some advice :)

You might get away with a percentage again I suggest Zollaf the human Aqualung as a person that would know. I'd add the veg oil first then a pint of petrol then the road diesel, those VP pumps are good.

as doc really, 50 % in warm weather and about 10-25 in colder weather. your pump should handle it ok. just keep an eye on you engine oil level and make sure all your glow plugs work. if you just fitted a heat exchanger HEAT EXCHANGER biofuel veg vegetable cooking oil WVO | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEAT-EXCHANGER-biofuel-veg-vegetable-cooking-oil-WVO-/131058870882?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Hearing_Cooling_Air&hash=item1e83b7aa62)

like this, you could increase to 90 % in the summer.
