Dash lights

Hi

Im am about to purchase a 2009 Audi A4 S-line Avant. One point that came up on the inspection is that the illumination behind the speedo (between 20-60mph) intermitantly goes on and off. I think this must be a end of life bulb. The independent garage has said that from 2009 the led lights cant be changed. Is that correct?

Yes you have to change the whole speedo cluster, mine was under warranty so lucky as it was about £1000 with labour

£1000!!!! Curious how much the replacement speedo is, as they are not that hard to swap over.

BBA reman could maybe fix the light, maybe something to consider.

Ebay have some ranging from £160 to £200 used.

If you do need diodes repair I can help but you need to mark which diode goes as problem is intermittent :) had exactly same with my speedo

Diodes in cluster are little bit tricky as they do have unusual temp and is hard to find replacement that matches brightness and colour temperature

On the test drive, was the ambient light low? reason I ask is Dash illumination responds to outside lighting levels. Bright = Illumination on.....Dull = Illumination goes off, thats a reminder for you to put your lights on.
