The performance-oriented A4 S line range also expands to include a new S line Special Edition model powered by the new 170PS 2.0-litre TDI engine, while the A4 line-up as a whole benefits from new cost-effective combined option packages.

The BOSE sound system incorporates high performance loudspeakers with acoustics specially tuned to the architecture of the A4 Saloon and Avant, giving exceptional bass and treble response and outstanding richness and clarity of sound. Normally an upgrade costing £480 for Audi Concert II and Symphony II CD audio systems, it becomes an integral part of the SE and S line specification at no extra cost until December 31, 2006.

SE specification is available in conjunction with eight petrol and TDI engines in the A4 range, and in addition to the BOSE upgrade adds features including the Concert II radio with single CD player, 17-inch 16-spoke alloy wheels, cruise control and a Driver's Information System. Upgrading to an A4 SE is free of charge until December 31, 2006.

More performance oriented A4 S line models combine the BOSE upgrade and Concert II radio with single CD player with 18-inch 5-arm alloy wheels, sports suspension, exclusive S line body styling, part-leather sports seats, a 3-spoke multi-function sports steering wheel and a Driver's Information System. S line specification is available at a reduced premium of £750 until December 31, 2006 in combination with eight engines.

Second S line Special Edition model joins the range
The popularity of the original A4 2.0 T S line Special Edition, which combines a more powerful 220PS version of the turbo charged 2.0-litre FSI petrol engine with an enhanced S line specification, has prompted the launch of a TDI-powered equivalent. Like its FSI petrol counterpart, the new A4 2.0 TDI 170PS S line Special Edition is available in Saloon or Avant form and in either front-wheel-drive or quattro four-wheel-drive configurations, and is priced from £25,605 OTR. Specification includes all the above equipment plus exclusive 18-inch 15-spoke alloy wheels and full Volterra two-tone leather upholstery.

Incorporating the latest Piezo injection technology, the new 170PS 2.0-litre TDI engine powers the A4 2.0 TDI S line Special Edition from rest to 62mph in 8.6 seconds, is capable of a 142mph maximum speed and returns up to 48.7mpg.

New cost-effective A4 combined option packages
From this week new option packages for the A4 range make tailoring a new car to suit individual tastes both more straightforward, and more affordable. Combining complementary options, the new Communications, Luxury, Visibility and Executive packs bring customer savings of up to £425 compared with specifying the options individually.

The Communications Pack, for example, brings together DVD satellite navigation, a six CD changer and voice control for navigation, radio, CD system and phone (where fitted) at an extra cost of £2,195. Specified separately, these options would amount to a total cost of £2,620.
