View Full Version : Feeler for Southern region mega meet ?

Col

We have all seen the VW night driving advert on the telly.

Lets do it for real (Audi's, Skodas, Seats, Lambos, Bentley's and Bugatti's all welcome as well... haha ha!)

My plan, and it is an ambitious one is as follows....

1, There are several mini meets dotted around the South area.

2, Once people have assembled at those places they convoy to meet up with other members from other mini meets.

It is ambitious and I doubt there will be much interest but even if we could (as a start) even manage to organise two convoys, it would be a start.

Here is what I think should be the plan....

Mini meets at the following locations;

Fleet Services M3 - Matt-h, NICK H
Reading and / or Newbury M4 - BigCol
Oxford and / Cherwell valley M40 -
South Mimms M25 -
Clacket Lane M25 - mycarsavw + 2 (maybe)

If at least two members could meet at the above locations at say 8pm then leave in convoy towards Heston Services on the M4, by my reckoning everyone should arrive at Heston by say 9pm.

The idea would then be to have a chat and mong around for maybe an hour, I'll bring the laptop with VAGCOM, a good time will be had by all etc then, if there is any interest, we could either disperse or convoy through / into London and see if we could get some photos of VWAF car and members against some of Londons landmarks.

This may of course be an over ambitious plan but if anyone has even the slightest inkcling they might want to get involved, then post up your interest. It doesn't matter if you are new to the forum and / or rarely post, please show your interest.

Proposed dates are;

28/09/07
29/09/07

5th or 6th
12th or 13th
19th or 20th
of October.

Please post your interest and lets do some night driving.

ok,

I'll be happy to meet people at fleet,

Cant do september as i'm getting married on the 28th - could cause a few problems

Is there anything you need me to do?
i've not ever had any real experience of helping arrange/attending a meeting before, but dont mind helping where possible

Matt

Nope, there is nothing really to do except to wait and see if anyone else would meet you at Fleet.

From another thread, MyCarsaVW has said he is in, so at present it would appear it is us three. If it continues that way and / or judging where the interest is geographically, we could change the rendevous point.

Ooo-er, I said rendevous, never said that work before !

Yes, please do.

And to everyone, depending on where the most response comes from, dictates where the main meet up point will be.

As I cannot edit the first post...

Those who are in so far...

Me (would mini meet at Reading services)
mycarsavw (would mini meet at Clacket Lane?)
Matt-h (would mini meet at Fleet?)
Nick H (would mini meet at Fleet?)

When I say mini meet, I mean where you'd convoy from to the main meeting point.

Oh and bump.

Oh and to all those reading this, please post your interest, afterall this is only a feeler at the moment, you are not comitting !!

A few of the comments from Briskoda:

'nice idea, but have you seen heston services and the lack of spaces? maybe another meeting point needs to be thought of. . . just my 2 pence worth'

'Pistonheads often use the Public car park at Virginia waters, you can squeeze 400 cars in there, that should be big enough postcode GU25 4BE, Pub adjacent for "refreshments" & nosh as well

Can someone mention it to Big Col as Im not on that Forum'

'I could be tempted by something like this but like you say maybe it's a little too ambitious. We could tie this in with the Newbury meet we have?

It also sounds a little bit like the massive VW meet (the name escapes me for the moment) that used to be at Fleet Services but that got so huge the Services management refused to host it further.

Keep us posted as to when/where this is meant to happen'

'That would be No-Rice, which completely filled the southbound side of Fleet services and got 'moved on'.

'I think the same problem applies to this one and that is you need somewhere that is happy to host all of the cars'.

'If its a one off and you inform the garage in advance then they dont seem to mind, the mini group stop at membury services each year on their annual trip and use the coach park, but all this is done with permission in advance and a strict itinery.
Nice idea though.'

All noted and agreed, especially about Heston.

I think it is over ambitious but it is only a feeler.

I think in reality we will end up having several mini meets without the convergance on a central point.

I'm perfectly place location wise to get anywhere within reason in the South area an would travel an hour.

As above though, these types of events though are simply about hanging around for an hour or two, having a chat about our cars and then going home. To this end (from experience), an evening meet would be better as it leaves the all important weekends free. That would leave Virginia Water, lovely as it is, a bit dark !

But...

There are no rules to this, it is simply gauging interest and any further input / fine tuning more than welcome.

And...

The way I now see it is as follows; mini meets at say the following services;

M25 Clacket Lane
M25 South Mimms
M3 Fleet or Winchester
M4 Reading or Newbury or Membury
M40 Oxford or Cherwell Valley

So...

Lets start small and build up.
I'm up for any of these locations (not on the same evening obviously).
I'll always bring the laptop along and will happily scan your motor for faults and do basic adaptions like auto locking etc.

And incidentally...

The big Tescos at Slough is a really good place, I've previously organised a few meets there when I was active on the ukmkivs forum. So if there are any very local peeps, i.e. Maidenhead, Windsor, Slough, West London, please pipe up !

Finally...

This is still a 'feeler', you are not committing to coming along.

The NO-RICE meet is tomorrow night by the way at the Ladymead Centre in Guildford. I've been to the NO-RICE meet a few times when it was at Fleet and it certainly is something to behold, not been to it at Guildford though.

Also when / where is your Newbury meet ?

i think it would be fantastic for it to be based on this forum.

but if we cant get the numbers :banghead:how about arranging a mini-meet for us guys, then meeting up with a couple of other meetings and all travel to london as one big event. just an idea

Sorry can't.

The Mrs is working tomorrow eve and I have my children to look after. I don't think I could drag them along with school the next day plus kids + car meets don't mix, they get bored very quickly.

bump

whats the latest on this or did it die?

No it is certainly not dead!
Plans for this are still ongoing, and as soon as I have some info,i'll post it

nice one sounds interestinghttp://www.briskoda.net/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

Interesting, any chance of it being mid November, say the week end of the 17th / 18th??http://www.briskoda.net/forums/images/smilies/B_thumb.gif

I'm interested depending on the date?

What about a Sunday evening and seeing if we can meet in a one of those Tesco megastores car parks?

I am sure permission would have to be found from the tesco manager, but hopefully he will own a VAG car anyway http://www.briskoda.net/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

There is obviously considerable interest in this idea,so lets go with it!:beerchug:

How are the plans going with this???

I am near WATFORD and willing to meet near there or Slough.

The COSTCO in Watford is massive and empty late at night just off the A41 should be easy for people to meet at. Would people be intrested in meeting on the last Friday of the month rather than setting to specific dates and see who turns up?>??

Just an Idea

Right. Let's get this going.

I currently have a poll running on UKPassats to work out where to meet (link here (http://www.ukpassats.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4538))

I'm going to do the same thing here on VWAF. If you've showed your interest in this thread, please do the same in the new one.

This WILL happen with or without VWAF members, but I'd prefer it to be a joint effort between UKP and VWAF.

Get voting folks
