View Full Version : Another light question...

I'm still having intermittent problems with my N/S headlight, but that's getting sorted next week once and for all (hopefully)...

My new question is, the good light (that works all of the time) has stopped doing the self test phase when it comes on. I'm not getting any errors on the dash, but it's definitely not doing the 'Up, down, back to the middle' routine.

Any ideas?

I've decided to carry this thread on, instead of starting a new one.

I've finally been told (what we think) the problem with my problematic headlights is... It's two failed control modules. Now, forgive my ignorance, but exactly what part is the control module? All the searches are pointing towards what I know as the ballast, and I'm sure that's not what's at fault. Any idea how much they are?

The ballast is the control unit which sits behind the headlight housing - one for the main beam and one for the LED/eyebrows (if you have them).
They are about 50-60 quid second hand.

I've got one of these...

That's not what I need, is it?

That looks like the main beam ballast - you say both modules have failed which I find hard to believe. Sure its not a wiring problem ?
Are you having problems with just one cluster or both ?

Had it scanned?

I've been having problems with the near side for a while now, sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't. Recently, it hasn't worked at all. Then a couple of weeks ago, the off side refused to start up too. It's been in Liverpool Audi who charged me £50 to tell me they couldn't diagnose it. What does the control module look like?

Audi done a diagnostic on it, and came back with nothing.

It's been suggested to maybe convert the car to halogen headlamps.....?

Does anyone know where I can acquire these headlight control modules?

That would be silly.

Check the part number on the one currently fitted on your car, punch that into google or ebay uk and ebay de.

My car's still in Liverpool, and to be honest, I still haven't got any idea what this part looks like or where it goes ha ha!

On the back of the headlight somewhere, possibly behind the removable cover.

So this is what I can work out... This is the whole set up...

That's the LED ballasts, headlight ballasts, connecting cables and DS3 bulbs... What's missing? Because I don't recall seeing anything else on the headlamps, or around that area.

So the part I've been pointed to is the other unit, not what I called the ballast.

The part number is 8K0 907 472, and the one on my car is 1 307 329 218.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the LED control unit? Or does this have any influence on the headlights too?

Can anyone tell me if this part is related to the xenons? I've still found nothing to say that it is?
