Hi,
It appears that the air conditioning in a Bora (2000) is no longer working. The light comes on inside the car. The fuse appears to be okay (assuming I've got the right one - can anyone confirm it is 5 amps, and in position 3 in the fuse layout).
It has been mentioned to me that sometimes the air conditioning is disbaled if the coolant level is too low, could this be the case and can I easily check the level?
Any help greatly appreciated
Steve

Its not possible for you to check the level yourself. This needs to be done professionally. Its advisable to use the a/c at least a couple of times a week even during winter to prevent bacteria build up and pressure discharge. The system will not work below a certain pressure.

Thanks,
It looks like another expensive trip to the VW dealer then!

Hi
Look in the local telephone directory for an air con specilist, a simple ac service including regassing the system, adding oil to the system, and a general inspection for leaks, should cost around the £80 mark. Dealer may charge a lot more than this.

Just to let you guys know - I had to pop into KwikFit the other week due to puncture and once there I saw they did Air-Con recharge / servicing for £44.95 which is WAY cheaper than any other place I've seen.
I got it done on our '97 MK3 and it's so much better...
Would never thought I'd recommend KwikFit as I think they're idiots... but it's a simple job and at that price only double what a DIY kit would be...

Cheers!

Had the Bora re-gassed, no leaks so total cost including dye was £55.
Other car going in on Monday for same as the air con on the Passat is also failing. Is this a common problem of VWs?

Passat went in and was re-gassed. Air con then lasted a whole 3 hours. Went back and apparently there is a leak in the drier. Anyway £468 later (VW dealer) all is well - new hose, drier plus seals.
So all in all :-
Bora re-gassed (£55)
Passat re-gassed (£55)
Passat leaks fixed etc (£468)

It seems to be a common problem on all AC equipped cars according to adverts I have read.

Hmm, Maybe - but I've never had this problem with any other make of car!
I also currently have a Jeep (now 6 years old, older than both the Passat and Bora) and its AC works fine and has never had a problem
