VCDS Help, airbag

hi, since owning the car this fault has been there for the airbags, can anyone help? I cant access the airbag controller and it says something about RON files. I borrowed a lead off a mate until I can afford a genuine ross tech one. is the access problem due to not using a genuine vcds lead? and help on the fault codes, Friday,04,October,2013,21:56:40:55062

Indeed it probably is. The party that ripped off the product, did not supply all of the ASAM data required and so the cloned product is not able to access the control module. Notice the coding is all zeros. The clone is not interpreting information properly. I suggest you don't mess with high level functions with that clone.

This is an email reply from ross tech after using a genuine lead
There are different types of control modules in vehicles. To that end, on
modern cars, there can be "CAN" protocol modules, and "UDS" protocol
modules. The Airbag module is a UDS version. The Engine Control Module is
also a UDS type module. With these types of modules, VCDS has to identify
the specific module and then uses a "ROD" file to interpret the data from
the module into something useful for us to look at. However, the Airbag is
not reporting a part number. This is what your report shows:

Since your Airbag module is not reporting a part number, I'm thinking the
module itself might not be to factory design. A few things that come to
mind that could cause something like this... voltage issues could damage the
module.


The first fault code that is listed, 13697280, that DTC number looks to be a
Component Protection: Active code. Component Protection is something that
only the dealer can resolve.

So, what do you all think?
Is it a knackered module due to voltage? Or is it got component protection active?
only reason I ask is if you look at the scan there are a few faults which show component protection active but the module can still be read.
Where is the airbag module located on the b8 ?
does anyone know what the correct part number should be?
with there being a few component protections active, will audi charge per module to correct or just an hourly rate?
will the airbags still work In a crash with the way it is now?

I don't know the version he used, I paid a guy from audisport.net (N8) to do the scan as no one on here could help when I went through the map. I assumed he is all up to date because he emailed ross tech

Can someone help with the location of the air bag module on my b8 and what the correct part number is, please. Just want to check it's the rigt module and no cables have come loose before taking it to audi to get the component protection possibility looked at.

Just been reading the handbook and it says the airbag light should stay Lit for 2 secs when the car is started
Mine doesn't light up at all,
Is this because component protection is active or faulty
