I was just having a browse on auto trader tonight at A7s (as mine should be with me this month) and it seems there are two types of climate control controls in the front of the car. Has there been some sort of facelift or is it dependent on which spec you ordered? There seems to be both sort of unit on both newer on older cars so assume it's the latter but not sure. I prefer the one with two dials and the screen but probably too late to change now. Anyone know?

The one with the screens is digital, the other manual. Digital looks nicer.

The three dial unit in the lower picture is standard 'automatic air conditioning' whereas the two dial unit in the upper picture is 'deluxe 4 zone automatic climate control'. The exact differences can be viewed in the configurator. Both units are current, the deluxe 4 zone is a £620 option.

Brilliant, thanks. Until I found those pictures I didn't even know there was more than one sort of dials. I opted for the 4 zone climate so should be ok and get the unit I preferred the look of.

The benefit of 4 zone climate control is as follows. Better rear seat control for passengers, climate glove box, and this is the real mega thing. When you turn the engine off you can prees abutton for residual heat. This allows the electric water pump in the engine to continue to operate circulating heat from the engine into the cabin keeping the inside warm while you fill up with fuel or pop to the shops. How clever is that! Now for the official information.Climatronic control unit J255 for the four zone air
conditioning system
The functions can be activated/deactivated by pushing the buttons.
The control knob is used for adjusting temperature, blower speed
and air distribution in the front two climate zones.
The diode in each button is lit when the function is activated. The
front climate settings are indicated on the Climatronic control unit
display and, for several seconds, on the MMI display. The air
conditioning can be adjusted separately for the driver and front
passenger sides. In addition, the front passengers can adjust the
rear cabin settings or synchronise all four zones with the driver's
climate zone setting.
Residual heat
In the four zone air conditioning system the "Residual heat"
function can be activated when the ignition is "off " by pressing and
holding the blower speed setting button. The residual heat of the
cooling water is used for heating the interior of the occupant cell.
The coolant run-on pump V50 continuously circulates the hot
water through the heating system. The "Residual heat" function is
deactivated automatically after approximately 30 minutes.
Rear air conditioner/Climatronic operating and
display unit E265
In the four zone air conditioning system both rear climate zones
can be controlled by the rear air conditioner/Climatronic operating
and display unit E265.
In vehicles with a four zone air conditioning system, a seat heater
can be ordered as an option for both front seats.
