Polo crunching gears after engine steamclean

Hi guys, im new to the forum:Blush:

I need some help.

My car is a 53 reg polo 1.4tdi. I steamcleaned the engine bay on sunday and now im struggling to get it from 2nd to 3rd gear, it crunches when i try to select 3rd.

Im thinking it must be related to the steamclean of the engine but a mechanic friend said its not possible.

I dont know what o do as i dont want to replace the gearbox if it doesnt need replacing

Any help would be greatly appreciated

perhaps the steam clean has forced dirt/debris into the gearbox? just a thought. perhaps get car up on a ramp an have someone look at it whilst you engage the gears (engine off obs). good luck

You probably disturbed the Bowden cables, have a look on google theyre easy to realign

It was the gearbox, replaced it and all is well now. I dont think it was the steam clean that did the damage to be honest
