OK so I had issues early on with cylinder misfires, had 3 new coli packs fitted, fine for 25 miles and then pop engine comes on again. the error codes are 17538 (fuel trim bank 2 system too lean) and 17536 (fuel trim bank 1 system too lean). any ideas guys?

Did you check if your coil packs are subject to a free recall?

Ring Customer Service on 0800 699 888 or contact your local dealer.

But anyway -

Just had this on a D3 4.2 petrol

Main fuel pump was on its way out. There are two, main pump on right, and transfer pump on left. Transfer pump only works on startup and above 3000 revs. Mine would seem to stutter on long motorway journeys, but if I got it above 3000 it was fine. Same lean trim error codes on both banks and engine light coming on.

If you take out the boot carpet and take off the cover panel on the right you might hear it struggling, I could, sounded like the bearing was going; slight, slow, uneven whine.

Audi tell you to replace both pumps, but the transfer pump only does half the work of the main pump. I just replaced the main pump, solved the problem.
