View Full Version : Broken O/S spring.....inner N/S tyre wear?

Hello there,

my O/S rear spring has a bit missing from the bottom (noticed on a recent service).
My N/S rear tyre is worn on the inside.
Could this be an effect of the spring damage or is it more likely a dodgy N/S wheel bearing.
The latter happened on my B5 but tyre wear was on the outside and it was a dodgy wheel bearing?

Thanks

If you have a broken spring then replace them as a pair.
At the same time check wheel bearings.
If ok, then get wheel alignment checked and adjusted.

Thanks, I was considering whether to do both springs.
Does it sound more like wheel bearing wear (on the tyre) than the spring affecting it?

Hi Desh,
I had uneven wear on rear o/s, but this was down to a worn / seized cam adjuster for the tracking on the rear suspension.
If you know that a rear spring is broken... then this needs to be done.
Bearings can be checked easily by jacking each wheel and checking for play / noise etc. and replaced if required when springs are being changed.
All these issues could give you the symptoms you are experiencing.

Thanks Mark I'll do all that and see how I go.
