Good evening all, I hope that you have all had a very enjoyable summer.

Just had my Tiguan 140TDI serviced, car is now 4 years old with 42K on the clock. The charming service desk lady at Shrewsbury VW strongly recommended a timing belt change as the official VW change frequency is 4 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes sooner.

Coming from the mileage based 1.9PD engine culture, I'm struggling with this 4 years belt change edict, money making or a real requirement? Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Alan

Prevention is better than cure!

I always stick to 4 years or 60k whichever comes first.

As your car is over 4 years old you can benefit from the fixed price servicing - Volkswagen Servicing : Volkswagen UK (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing)

You could also have a look at our current forum sponsors who could possibly offer the job cheaper? Site Sponsors - Directory Of Site Sponsors (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?215-Site-Sponsors-Directory-Of-Site-Sponsors)

Do it. I thought the same as you and decided it was a money making scheme due to the recession. My Fabia was well under the mileage but 4 years old. Bang! Sold the wreckage of a £1500 car for £200. I've just bought a Tiguan that is almost 5 years old, which is why I'm looking at this thread. Cheers to Chris for the links above.
