After much head scratching, deliberating, reading, more head scratching I have just ordered a replacement for my A6 2008 2.7 quattro. After nearly 120k miles of faultless performance, and the onset of a number of niggling and potentially expensive repairs I made the move.

There was never an option to try anything else - didn't even look at another make or model - my only reluctance was the local Audi main dealer - I just didn't think we were on the same page, or book for that matter. I won't name names that isn't fair, but I did buy my current car there, but have never had it serviced due to poor after sales preferring other local ones while under warranty, and then a great independent garage ( that I found through these pages 4 years ago - more thanks!) specialising in VAG cars.

On the basis the local guys couldn't source me an auto, that was most important, I looked on the Audi www and saw any number elsewhere, and promptly bought one over the phone at Milton Keynes Audi! Obviously subject to seeing it, but deposit paid back in August to hold the car for me.

Travelled the 230 odd mile round trip yesterday. Without your comments and help I would not have been able to get the level of understanding beforehand or the knowledge to ask the right questions. Says a lot that I felt the guy at MK ( Ivor) not only wanted to sell a car ( and offer acceptable PX on mine) with competitive PCP that I would rather deal with him than a Main Dealer 7 miles from my front door. My wife and I had excellent service when we visited - exactly what I thought from a few telephone calls I'd had with him - good "old fashioned" customer care - no nasty surprises and I would recommend any serious buyers to them generally and him in particular.

Before finding this dealer, I tried to enquire about other cars from other dealers and my previous experience locally just confirmed that they didn't have the monopoly on poor service, it was widespread! Can't believe that calls weren't returned maybe no one else wanted to sell cars in August/ September - maybe that says the brand is selling well enough, but anyway glad I found Ivor at Milton Keynes.

Car drove superbly ( and as I expected). Love the S-Line feel ( SE currently) - sports seats etc - the tech pack adds a lot to the screen and satnav, and if I ever fully understand it all I will be doing very well! At 7k miles has been used by their buying manager and looks immaculate. Having DAB fitted - see they are now standard for MY14 - fistune being fitted by them ( via someone else I think) to integrate into the MMI - again wouldn't have known what to ask without reading here.

So collecting 23rd ( or they might deliver it) September A6 2.0 TDi S-Line in Ice Silver Metallic with the Tech Pack and HFS. Negotiated RTI cover and the Diamondbrite at great price ( well I thought so anyway) and so now just waiting for the big day. My choice to wait to 23rd Sept btw. Testing my own patience.

Thank you on behalf of many lurkers on this forum to the active members here, I have learned so much and will try and hang around and add what I can.

Welcome and congrats, you will love it. I often go for a drive just for the pleasure of being in it. Great, great car. I bought mine from a dealer in Hants and was very happy, hope it wasn't the same one.:biglaugh:

We bought our A6 2 years ago which we got from Milton Keynes and I'm sure the salesman name was Ivor. Was Ivor A big bald bloke ( a bit like myself ) if so I think that was the salesman we was dealing with and he got us a very good deal that no other dealer could get anywhere near at the time.

Doesn't sound like Ivor, man le-mans but to be honest, they are a big dealership, and I know it is a busy time, however they are doing lots of business, in the couple hours we were there, there were collections going on, with other guys. He was preparing for 4 hand overs today he told us - maybe just a busy place with the right attitudes. Guess the moral of the story is to shop around - I wouldn't have dreamt of buying so far away from home, 3 years ago, but everything started with a very good telephone call - better deal than anything I was offered elsewhere, but more importantly treated much much better than anywhere else.

Yes they was very busy when I was there and in the few hours I was there see half a dozen cars being collected both from the forecourt and the show room, and more being driven round from the back. I guess if any Audi dealer ship needs advise on how to sell there Audis then they should go there for help

All the dealerships that I looked at when researching my latest car were extremely busy. I suppose if they are that busy then they can afford to ignore phone calls. Although Audi are experiencing a downturn of sales in Europe, the UK is bucking the trend. There is ample evidence of this on the roads.

So Monday came and i finally took delivery of my new (ish) most beautiful Silver S-Line A6. Nice leisurely drive to MK Audi, narrowly avoided a learner driver who wanted to test my "old car" breaking - would have been an interesting conversation had she hit me when I took in my PX!! Anyway the 120 odd miles seemed like a lifetime - the advantage of course was that i had 120 odd miles to drive back in the new car - and that just flew by! A lovely way to really start to get to know this car.

It is, of course exactly the same in many ways, but also completely different - going from a C6 quattro beast to a refined 2.0 litre was a very easy transition. The dealer was great, made all the easier by the threads on here, especially this one Collecting 61 plate A6 next weekend... anything specific to check? (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?133040-Collecting-61-plate-A6-next-weekend-anything-specific-to-check) as I wrote to Ivor last week pointing out the items I was expecting to be there - he thanked me for my email and for making things clear - so I have to thank the contributors here, because most things I wouldn't have thought of.

The quality of the build is a given, the sports seats and the S-Line suspension works for me but there are a couple of small details that I haven't seen mentioned, or if they are not necessarily answered so a couple of things off the top of my head:

Firstly, mentioned recently the bag handles in the boot - simple and new for me - I already used them.

Secondly, clearly my attention span is short but I could never remember on the C6 on a cold morning which of the two buttons did which to defrost the rear window or defrost/ blow air onto the front window - pleased to see they have added front and rear on the new car, either side of the central blower control - i have no excuse now!

A useful feature I hadn't seen mentioned is the button on the right hand side of the steering wheel that looks a bit like a snowflake, well, you know what I mean, it's this one...

.....well you can personalise it and you have a selection of what you can do with it. I set mine to change from Radio to Media - saves me taking my eyes off the road - simple and effective, but you can see the other choices here. Quality....unlike the picture. Sorry. But anyway here you are.

Someone else was asking, or maybe it was me about the size of the Hard drive on the MMI Navigation plus - that can be used by the Jukebox. I haven't put anything in the Jukebox yet - here are the numbers if that interests you, but basically looks like 3000 tracks upto a total of 18 odd GB

Finally, thanks to this forum I bought off of Amazon the 3 network prepaid sim, as I know my iPhone'd SIM isn't remote useable and so would not connect. I put the card in on the forecourt and it connected straight away and used Googlemaps all the way home pretty much and again yesterday, and here is the data use over probably 250 miles. If I understand it correctly there is a caching exercise the computer does so if you drive the same roads, as I do then there is no download it just uses the cached images - although you may have limited clarity of picture if you try and zoom in close or use street view - you can see it is pretty modest and I wouldn't expect it to go up at that speed every day, simply because these will be regular drives.

Anything I miss? Well quattro in the winter maybe. Digital speedometer - yes ( maybe it is there and I haven't found it) but I can live without it. MPGs in the high 20s or low 30s - yeah I'll miss that...not. Otherwise, it was and is still out there somewhere a great car, but this one is really really FAB!

I tried to point out some little things, but I can give some MPGs on the new car as well - so far ( Multi gearbox) Monday and Tuesday both 120 mile days both got 49 + mpg with pretty steady driving due to traffic but all main roads - mainly in Economy mode, but gave it some spririted running on Dynamic as well just to try it out.

All in all well pleased. Hope something here was useful, and thanks for the forum help in getting this far.

Digital speedo is there, but Sat Nav tends to override it (when I have it set on anyway). Just scroll through on the left hand side roller and side to side button and you'll find it.

Thanks Wuffles, I'll have a look tomorrow.

One thing that isn't right and the guys that fitted it are looking into is the DAB.

Being fitted in MK, by the time i got home the DAB needs retuning.

It is the Fistune kit - fitted so that it is fully usable in the MMI, as it would have been factory fitted ( and was in my last A6).

The problem is there is no retune/ update prompt in the settings, nor is there an update link above the radio DAB stations on the MMI screen - that is how I would retune previously.

Has anyone else come up against this?

Waiting on a call back from the contracting fitters, but i think it has stumped them...so far.

Congrats on the new car Ian...

DAB.. hmm. I have factory DAB (MY2014 build) and I have not seen a retune option. That's not to say it is not there but I have not seen it and, for the most part, have not seen any need to do it, I figured that the car was working it out on the fly ala RDS FM radio (where it could follow Radio 2 or whatever across multiple frequencies as you drove around the country).

For the most part it's been flawless reception on Absolute radio (wifes fav) apart from some time in deepest Devon where we got very limited radio reception on DAB and FM.
