Hi all
I have a blackvue in car camera and want to wire it in as a permanent fixture to keep all the wires hid as well as possible
I want to hard wire it straight in the fuse box but am unsure which fuse box to go to.
Should i goto the drivers or passengers fuse box and which fuse carrier black/brown/red for a switched feed
Thanks

You should have a fuse box in the end panel of your dash.

I'm watching this thread with interest as I too have just bought two Blackvue's for both cars and wanting a switched feed

This post here is what I'm looking for - Non vag black box dash cams? - Page 2 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?145917-Non-vag-black-box-dash-cams&p=816353&highlight=#post816353)

Very tempted to get one of these Blackvue's

I'd also like to know where I can find a switched live in the drivers side fuse box so I can hardwire a feed for my Tomtom...

Have you seen these?
http://www.co-star.co.uk/range/363/fuseholders-&-fuses/add-a-circuit-fuse-holders.html

Hopefully someone will share their pearls of wisdom with us soon :)

ok, looking the handbook I think, drivers side black and brown fuse carriers are switched from what the have on them and red is permanent because it does things like interior light, sunroof etc Passenger side I reckon black is switched because it does diagnostic connector and brown is permanent because it does light switch etc.

also, a bit off topic, I see there is a fuse for clutch sensor. so, using cruise control when I dip the clutch cruise stays active yet in my old car dipping the clutch would deactivate it. is this just an audi thing or could my clutch sensor be an issue, cheers

That's normal for cruise.

Check each fuse with a multimeter with the key off and on, I'll be doing this tomorrow on the a6.

normal that it doesn't go off when clutch is dipped? I don't have a multi meter, really need to get one, can you let me know what you find please

Yep, normal that it doesn't go off when you dip the clutch to change down or up, tap the brake and it will go off. Same as my A3.

I don't have one either but a spark next door will have one. Not sure how much use of it will be suitable as my A6's fuse panel is probably different than your A4.

I done this very recently. On my car, the bank im pointing to is switched. I used an “Add a fuse” to tap of circuit without out needing to wire additional ways in. Very handy things. I also, <removed> a belkin micro cigar socket 1A 5v adapter and use it as my power source since you most mobile devices require 5V, and not 12V. couple of pics attached. 2220122202

Nice one mate. Yeah I've bought a spare 12v socket so the camera just plugs straight in, going to hide it in the drivers footwell somewhere, but I have a spare connector for the fuse box from when I installed hill hold assist so will be connecting it with this
got hold of a multi meter today but this will save some time checking
going to be putting it on a 5amp fuse, will this do? Or should it be smaller?
cheers

so your using a cigar socket adpater as your source too? mine is 1A regulator 12v to 5v. so i use a 1A fuse. 5A will be way to big and wont be protecting you; thats if i understand your setup correctly.

the normal 12v sockets are protected by a 15 amp fuse according to the handbook

Really? Seems very high. The fuse is there to protect the wire it services for shortcut circuit protection which would suggest the internal csa of that cable is suitably sized and capable of drawing 15A. I was under the impression most cigar socket internal wiring was about 3A. Every day is a school day lol

to follow up , if your correct in what your saying about the 15A, then 5A may be ok, providing the cable you have connected to your device is capable of drawing 5A. if its not, then 5A fuse is too big. again, the fuse protects the cable it feeds.

this is the one I bought, rated a 5amps so I should be fine fitting a 5amp fuse as protection.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260865727100?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch% 2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D26086 5727100%26_rdc%3D1
