Hi folks,

I got a 2004 1.9 tdi touran. Problems is my aircon at times won't turn on. I thought initially regas issues but had it regassed but problem still persists. Noticed if I turned off the engine and switched on sometimes does the trick aircon works again. Has anyone encountered the same issues before?

Is the econ switch light on? If so, your air con is off! I had a similar problem with my old Passat which turned out to be a dirty connection on the pressure regulator. Unplugged it, plugged it back in and it worked! I had that regassed first too.

Econ light is off but still aircon not working. Sometimes it work but most of the times it doesnt. Sorry for my ignorance. Where can I locate the connection on the pressure regulator? It might be the problem.

Had a similar problem with mine, it turned out to be a high pressure switch.

Hi there. I am ignorant with car mechanics but can you tell me where this switch located and can it be easily replaced? Cheers.

Not really something you can do yourself, it requires you to de-pressurise the system and re-pressurise it. The location as far as I can remember is on the left (looking at the car) on the side of the compressor. Best to take it to a Air Con specialist or a VW Dealer.

The high pressure sensor (G65) doesn't need to have the system depressurised - it sits on a Schraeder valve so is a screw on/screw off job, so long as you can access it. I've had it fail on two cars, and it is a very common fault. Unfortunatly, on both the Golf and the Eos, it's in a pig of a place to get at. Whoever regassed the aircon should have noticed if it wasn't holding pressure so maybe you have a compressor fault.

My recommendation is to try a Halfords service centre. They will repressurise with a leak detector fluid and then look for where it is coming out. It's a couple of quid more expensive than some places, but if they can't re-gas they don't charge. At least, my local place doesn't.
