OK Gerry.

So far:

Bumper protector/Door sill protectors (I have a dog)
Exhaust tips (bought Skoda Yeti tips)

To come:

Boot liner
Carpet mats set
Mud Flaps
Bulbs for headlights/sidelights/DRLs (Osram Nighbreakers)
ClimAir wind Deflectors
[Deleted] Replace the incandescent registration plate bulbs with LED's (accessories code 5G0 052 110 - £55)
New dog crate for Katie-Moragh, my Cocker Spaniel
All-over G|Techniq surface protection which I will apply myself.

Can anyone recommend a carpet mat set which they have actually purchased - I got totally stuffed last time around when I ordered from MrCarMts, don't intend repeating that experience - of course I suppose I could just buy from Volkswagen but I prefer something a little more individual.

That's a brilliant list for you and Katie :)

I already had the mats delivered.......they're quite smart black ones with a red border

I got 'em from this Company :

VW Golf Car Mats | VW Golf Carpet Car Mats | Floor Mats 2012+ (http://www.ukcarmats.co.uk/vw-golf-carpet-car-mats-2012-tailored-floor-mats.html)

N.B. not to be confused with Mr Car Mats......they have a well earned bad reputation.

Mud flaps and wind deflectors give the car a wider looking track IMO

I'll have to have a look at those mats Gerry - is that for a set of four?

Making Katie comfortable is very important - currently she has a very basic crate, but there are some new impact resistent ones on the market which are very tempting. I'm just going to get the dealer to add mud-flaps before I take delivery.

Here is my VIP (Very Important Pup) passenger - she loves the car.

Had planned to fit the VW LED rear plate lights until I found it cost £55 x 2 units ( £110 ) for somebody else to admire. No thanks.

If anybody finds suitable DRL replacement bulbs that don't throw dash lights and have suitable fixings. Please let us know.

Oh heck, I didn't realise they were £55 each! I thought that was for the pair - sod it, they're off the list

Thanks - she is a darling if rather naughty, but so typically Cocker Spaniel. We've had Cockers in the family since at least the 1890s on/off. Katie is so unusual being almost totally white. She's five now, but I still can't quite get used to Spaniels with tails.

Oh, and BTW - it's Katie who thinks she owns the car.

Wow, how old are you then if you have had Cockers since the 1890's :D

seriously, we are Cocker mad and our 12 year old Jake is a real character. She's a looker all right.

OK - nice one.

My great great grandfather was the first that we know of to keep cockers, but Katie is my third.

Thanks Gerry - she knows she is beautiful too. She has kept us sane through some pretty rough times a couple of years back.

Seems to have descended into a dog thread :D;)

Here's our "old" boy cocker, Jake (at a sprightly 12½ years old), looking out for VW delivering my new GTD (you might be there a while bud !)

Hello Jake, you're a handsome fella.

One of our past Cockers - "Hattie" - lived to almost seventeen.

I've just realised that I know you from Detailing World - loved your recent thread on your wife's new Polo GT.

Ha small world Rob. If we could get to sixteen or seventeen with Jake we would be absolutely delighted !

Getting back onto cars, good news is that last night my GTD went into actual build, so in about 4 weeks ish it should be on my drive and a new thread up on detailing world ;)

All things being equal......I'd spec up to your level DW.....bar the dog cage.....I only wish I were still fit enough to look after a dog properly.

Norbreck, please say wuff to Jake from a dog lover.....he looks very wise in the image.

Much of the add-on expense is doggit-related, but she's worth it.

Doggits can be a pain - Katie is trying to tell me that she wants to go out and hunt for the three feral kittens ("Pip, Squeak & Wilfred" - cute as hell) who have adopted us lately.

My Chrome Skoda exhaust tips arrived at lunchtime - very impressed with the quality - well worth the cost (£23.95+£2.50) on ebaY.

I bought from Caffyns (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261196441892?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649) of Tunbridge Wells, ordered Monday evening, arrived today.

I'd popped into the dealers today to see my new GT 150 pre-PDI and I've just pre-paid for the LED registration plate accessory. They charged me £55 (not £110) and £9 for the touch-up paint.

DW58
24-08-2013, 02:07 PM
I hope my dealer has the same price and I might be tempted - I take it that the touch up paint has nothing to do with the LED light purchase?

No-one there today, I'll call them on Monday.

Nah, non-related purchases, just happened to be there and asked for some touch up paint in advance. Stone chips are just inevitable consequence of the monster commuting miles I rack up each week.

Have you tried Chipex (http://www.chipex.co.uk/) - I find their kits much better than Volkswagen's LacStick.

jv808
24-08-2013, 06:06 PM
I checked the link and it looks like an excellent product with real quality results but unfortunately it would also remove quite a wide area of GTechniq C1 & Exo protection that I'm having applied to my Mk7. The Chipex demo suggests removing all previous wax and lacquers over several square inches around the chip(s) which would be a real shame to do.

Ah, another G|Techniq fan. To be honest that's not something I'd ever considered, but it might be worth having a chat with Rob Earle at G|Techniq.

Are you getting the G|Techniq products applied by a detailer - the reason I ask is that even as an old crock riddled with Arthritis and affected by Fibromyalgia, I find G|Techniq products very easy to apply, I've been using them on my Mk.6 since I first got it.

jv808
25-08-2013, 09:00 AM
I don't have the confidence or skill to apply the C1 evenly or consistently, so I'm using a professional detailer that applies GTechniq products on a daily basis. He'll be using a whole host of products including P1 to begin with, nano-polish to remove factory/dealer swirls, C1 and 2 coats of Exo, C5 on alloys, G1 for windscreen and 3S smartglass coating. He's basically got the car for the entire day and overnight but the results will be worth it, better than when it left Wolfsburg and last for years. Mud and debris should just slide off after basic hosing :)

I'm doing the same with mine. only down side is the day and a half required for the detailer to do it ;)

Just put the C2V3 on the bodywork yourself after a good wash (polish too, if you feel the need for it), piece of cake - just stop your assistant from spraying 3 x the required quantity (as my dad did). The C1 will last longer, but the C2V3 is easily (and relatively quickly) applied without detailer expertise (as easy as a wash and wax) and expense, still lasts 8 months and is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying the C1 or paying a detailer to do it.

My dad's GTD felt like it had a teflon coating after the application of C2V3.

DW58
25-08-2013, 01:18 PM
I totally agree with the above, C2 in its various incarnation is an amazing product, I've used it on my Mk.6 for almost three years. I plan on applying C1/EXO to my Mk.7 myself, but will regularly use C2V3 as a QD (quick detailer) after washes, only takes ten minutes and pays dividends in the long run.

How much have you been quoted for the full G|Techniq treatment by a G|Techniq approved detailer?

Beading photos of the original C2 on my Mk.6 - G|Techniq products have come on leaps and bounds over the past three years.
