I am thinking of buying a b8 probably the 2.0 tdi (143). What things should I be looking out for? For example common problems and desirable equipment. I am a competent DIY mechanic and own vcds.

What sort of age/mileage are you considering? Manual or auto?

If it is a manual, check for any noise from the clutch when pressed, signs that the DMF/clutch is on its way out and this will be a £1,000 job to fix. Very common problem with the B8.
Check cambelt has been done if due (72k miles I think). Also oil changes should be carefully checked in the service manual.
DPF sensor is a common issue but that will just go at any time and is relatively cheap to fix (if a little annoying).
Not too many other common issues on these models thankfully.
Re options - bluetooth is a must I would have thought. Heated seats if you get leater. Servotronic is much better than non-servo IMO. Other than that it's just your preference.
