Knocking / play in drive train on take up

Hi

I drive a 3.0 TDI Q A4 B8. Over the last couple of months I have noticed a knocking sound when pulling away. It's very much like the drive is taking up a little bit of slack before it begins to move the car forward. In fact that last time I experienced something similar was on a MK4 golf when an engine mount wore out... the engine rotated further and then knocked before it began to drive... It's not noticeable when driving at speed... only when pottering around town in 1st and 2nd. You can make it happen by leaving 1st engaged and then slowing right down to almost a stop... then speeding up again...

Hope that's not too vague...

Any ideas?

Have you had it scanned for faults? I'm pretty sure engine mounts show on diag scans these days.

Hi

It's going in for a service very soon so will get it scanned then... Will be taking it to Audi dealer for a service as long as I can get a deal based on the age of the car (often possible my my local)
