Has anybody else had problems with scratch marks on the leather trim of the steering wheel? I'm very disappointed with quality of the leather used on the Golf Mk7. I've never had this problem on any other car I've driven over the years. Spoke to the dealer about this and their first reaction was to say that this was my problem and not a warranty issue, however they did take photos and said they would get back to me. No response yet!

What sort of scratches are you getting & what's causing them? On both of my cars with leather steering wheels I've had previously, they've been susceptible to getting scratches/scores when you catch them with my wedding ring or a finger nail, but generally they smooth out again with a bit of gentle rubbing. Granted I've not driven the Golf, are these not the kind of marks that you can smooth out?

Got to watch your steering wheel position ! you dont want your steering wheel to close to you otherwise your coat zip or jacket zip will scrape on your soft leather steering wheel
when turning the wheel
got the tee shirt for this one worse luck !

I'm assuming because all the scratches are on the right hand side of the steering wheel that my ring is to blame. There are no sharp edges on the ring, so this sort of damage should not happen. The faux leather used on the wheel seems to me to be very poor quality if it is going to scratch so easily. Does it mean that anyone wanting to drive a new golf needs to remove all jewellery prior to entering the car? Maybe have to wear soft cotton gloves????

I agree no it shouldn't.. if the ring has no hard edges then there's something not quite right there but it's very difficult to get the dealer to replace at no cost to you

I've done over 20k miles in my 2.0 tdi since I picked it up at the end of feb and have had no scratches on the wheel. I have a wedding ring on but no wear on the left hand side of the wheel. Are you sure your not morphing into wolverine?

I've had mine since March and wear a wedding ring. No problems. SWMBO also drives it, and she wears both an engagement ring and an eternity ring, as well as her wedding ring. That has not caused any problems.

David Gaunt: Not sure how you managed that unless you're Edward Scissor Hands/Freddy Kruger/Wolverine. Never seen damage like that on 6 VWs i've had from new with leather steering wheels. Are you sure you don't have a nick in your ring?
